Hey everybody. Today I thought I would share one of my go to recipes that I just happened to make up. It’s super healthy, and really yummy. I hope you like it. I shared it previously on a friend's blog, but it's really too good not to share here as well.
To start out, you need to make the sauce. We are going to make it from scratch. I know, it sounds scary, but it is actually really easy. This healthy little pizza is going to have a white sauce. “What!? White sauce?” you say. Many people think that white sauce can’t be healthy, but I’m here to tell you that it can. You will need:
1. Olive oil heating in a pan at medium heat.
2. 1/4 Cup whole wheat flour
3. Soy milk
Now don’t worry, if you want to use white flour or regular milk, it will work, I just prefer the whole wheat flour and soy milk.
You will also need some seasonings to make the sauce super tasty.
I like to use about a tablespoon each of garlic powder, onion powder, Johnny’s Seasoned Salt, and Italian seasoning. Don’t forget that the beauty of making a sauce from scratch is that you can add as much or as little of the seasoning based on what you like.
Here’s what you do:
Add the flour to the heated oil and stir with a whisk until it looks like this:
You may need to add more slightly more oil if it doesn't look like it's sticking together.
Add the milk and stir with a whisk until it looks smooth and creamy. You can add as much milk as you want just remember that it thickens as it simmers. Add little bits of milk at a time while whisking so that the sauce doesn’t get lumpy.
Stir in the seasonings with a whisk, let the sauce rest on low heat.
Now to put together the pizza.
I like to use sprouted grain tortillas as the “crust”.
Gather any toppings you want. I chose feta cheese, fresh basil, fresh spinach, mushrooms, and carrots.
I like to chop us my toppings…. any excuse to use my Pampered Chef food chopper.
Now to compile the pizza.
Put the tortilla in a pan on medium high heat.
Add the sauce, veggies, and cheese to the tortilla.
Cover and cook until the toppings are warm and the bottom of the tortilla is golden brown. The tortilla should be nice and crispy.
Put your pizza on a plate, cut with a pizza cutter, and enjoy. It’s healthy and delicious!
