Today is Ironman Sunday here in Coeur d’Alene. Watching Ironman always takes me back to June 25th, 2006 when Chris participated in the event.
It all started when we went to watch Ironman in 2005. Chris was so inspired that he decided he wanted to do the race that next year. Everyone thought he was crazy. Everyone said that there was no way that he would be able to finish an Ironman after only one year of training. Keep in mind that he had never even done a small marathon in his life, he was not a good swimmer, and he didn’t own a racing bike. But, he was determined. He paid the entry fee, joined a gym, and started training. On June 25th, 2006 here he was:
Getting ready for the race:
The race was on with a 2.4 mile swim:
A 112 mile bike ride:
And a 26.2 mile run:
My job that day was to find out where he was going to be next on the course so that we could have the cheer squad ready. It was a really fun day and Chris was happy that he did it. He is now able to call himself an Ironman. But… he said once was enough. Now we are happy watching and cheering on others as they race toward their dreams of becoming an Ironman.

Holy smokes. I had no idea an iron man entailed all of that! I mean, from the title it sounds intense, but I didn't know it was all that! Good grief.
This is a fantastic post! Congratulations to Chris!

Wow, that is an amazing accomplishment!! You must be so proud of him!
My sister-in-law runs marathons and triathalons and all kinds of crazy stuff. She's incredible (and a little scary). I'm always blown away by people's discipline and endurance.
