Wisdom

Words of Wisdom from Chris while reminiscing on the past:

“You can’t focus on the things you’ve given up.  It’s better to focus on the good like listening to Bob Segar’s Against the Wind and wearing cool safety glasses.”

No, these are not his safety glasses. I just wanted to add this picture to a blog post sooner or later.

Well said Chris. Well said.  Except for maybe the safety glasses part.  I’m not sure that there is such a thing as “cool safety glasses.”

Back to school, or daycare, or whatever

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, or you know me in person, than you know I’m a preschool teacher.  Some would say I’m a daycare provider, but I have a tendency to flinch when people say that. You see, I have a teaching degree, but teaching jobs in the district are a little hard to come by in Idaho with the budget cuts, and frankly, I’m pretty happy doing what I’m doing.  I’m not babysitting. I’m giving my students an education and I’m preparing them for Kindergarten.  That’s why I found this commercial so hilarious.

The bonus footage is even better.

I know it’s hard to make that payment to your preschool or daycare sometimes, I agree with Geico.  “There are better ways to save.”

RIP Reggie Roo

It was a sad day at our house today. Chris went outside to say hi to the dogs and give them fresh water only to find that poor Reggie had passed away.

We got him ten years ago from our local pound.  We were surprised to find a pure bred basset hound there, but we soon found out why.  I don’t think that everyone is cut out to put up with a basset’s stubborn nature or tendency to bark.  And trust me, when a hound barks, everyone in the neighborhood knows whose dog it is.  But actually, he was a great dog.  We got his barking under control and he was very, very loveable.  Yes, he had a mind of his own, and some days I wanted to strangle him, but he was a legitimate part of our family. And dang it, look how cute he was.

This is one of our first pictures of Reggie after bringing him home from the pound.  It’s crazy how dark he was.

How many bassets have you seen out in the woods? He loved to hike, and we used to have to pick him up so he could get over logs and debris.

Oh how I love the fair.

Every year, my sister Dawn and I go to the fair.

This year, we even let Chris come with us, but he spent most of him time at the rodeo while Dawn and I looked at exhibits.  He had a good time though.  A clown called him Mr. Clean and gave him a free shirt.  See? Being bald can be a good thing.  You can get made fun of and get a free shirt out of the deal. Hahaha

Dawn and I started our day out right with the traditional BBQ stand that sells pulled pork sandwiches. We eat there every year. Yummy!

Like I said before, Chris was not thrilled with the amount of time we spent looking at the exhibits.

We encouraged him to take off so that we could look at some of this cool stuff:

We ended the day with a snow cone.  It was a pretty hot day, even hotter on the asphalt, so this snow cone was the best thing EVER!

Bye Fair.  See you next year.

Falls Park

Last week, out preschool went on a field trip to Falls Park to check out the Post Falls Dam.  Our weekly theme is, “The Way Things Work,” so why not talk a little bit about what a dam does.  It’s the perfect opportunity to get out of the classroom and enjoy the outdoors.

My favorite part of the field trip was this critter that we saw in a tree.  I’m pretty sure it was a porcupine, but I wasn’t close enough to really tell.  The park also has some marmots that reside there.

Here’s a picture of a porcupine that I found online.

I’m not positive ours was a porcupine.  What do you think?

Kayaking Mirror Lake

I’ve been busy this weekend, but not in my favorite way.  I’ve been stuck dealing with a flat tire and doing housework today.  Don’t feel too bad for me.  It’s just a part of life and I have had some time to play around online for a while.  But that doesn’t stop me from wishing I was doing something else today.  Something more fun. Something more like what I did last Sunday.

Last Sunday, Chris and I spent the day kayaking at Mirror lake with Chris’s mom Jan, and his brother Jesse.  We had a great time.  Mirror lake is the perfect size for kayaking and the weather was gorgeous.  We enjoyed a picnic, did some fishing from our kayaks, and paddled all the way around the lake.  It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday.

We started the day fairly early by loading the kayaks on the jeep and we were on our way.

Oh yeah… Let me introduce you to my kayak, Boss Frog.  He was good to me all day, and even allowed Jan and Jesse to have a turn paddling.

We had a great day, and Chris and I discovered the perfect place to take my mom and Kirk kayaking the next time they visit.  Did you get that Mom? You need to visit soon, and bring your kayaks. :)
