True Blood Tuesday

Some of my friends and I are super excited about the new season of True Blood starting.  I know, I know it actually started on Sunday, but we decided to watch it on Tuesday. “Why?” you ask.  Because I don’t have a DVR, but my friend does, and her son goes with his dad on Tuesdays.

Now before you get all judgy on me and think that True Blood is silly or even that it’s something like Vampire porn, hear me out.  You get to look at this:

And these characters are hilarious:

Do I really need to say more?

Devil Cat

My sister’s cat is the devil incarnate.  You don’t believe me? Just look at this face:

043

What?! That didn’t convince you?  Well how about a little story.  This morning Chris walked upstairs (we currently live with my sister) for a cup of coffee.  Ansel (AKA Devil Cat) was laying on the kitchen floor.  Out of nowhere he pounces on Chris’s foot, digs his teeth in and claws the crap out of him.  Here’s a picture after the blood was cleaned up:

048

Ok. Ok. I know what you’re thinking.  It’s not that bad, right? Well you would be wrong.  It IS that bad to be attacked by Satan before you’ve even had your first cup of coffee in the morning.  Oh… and this attack was unprovoked I might add.

I know I showed you a picture of Ansel Devil Cat already, but I think this picture shows a much truer representation:

028

I’m warning you! If you see this cat, don’t let his little face and his purring distract you.  Back away and get out of there! Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Ironman

Today is Ironman Sunday here in Coeur d’Alene.  Watching Ironman always takes me back to June 25th, 2006 when Chris participated in the event.
scan0002

It all started when we went to watch Ironman in 2005.  Chris was so inspired that he decided he wanted to do the race that next year.  Everyone thought he was crazy.  Everyone said that there was no way that he would be able to finish an Ironman after only one year of training.  Keep in mind that he had never even done a small marathon in his life, he was not a good swimmer, and he didn’t own a racing bike.  But, he was determined.  He paid the entry fee, joined a gym, and started training. On June 25th, 2006 here he was:

Getting ready for the race:

P1010001   P1010002

P1010001a   P1010002a

P1010003a   P1010004a

P1010007

The race was on with a 2.4 mile swim:

A 112 mile bike ride:

P1010014    P1010015

And a 26.2 mile run:

P1010028   P1010027

My job that day was to find out where he was going to be next on the course so that we could have the cheer squad ready.  It was a really fun day and Chris was happy that he did it.  He is now able to call himself an Ironman.  But… he said once was enough. Now we are happy watching and cheering on others as they race toward their dreams of becoming an Ironman.

Oh… Those Pesky Nails

Remember when I said that I would surprise you with a San Juan Island post out of the blue?  Well, “Surprise.” I thought I would tell you about a part of my trip that was not so pleasant for me.  It all started on a Sunday morning.  My mom, Emilene, Kirk, and I decided to go on a walk on the beach.

First, I slipped on the rocks and fell on my booty.  No, I am not all that clumsy, the rocks were just slippery.  See for yourself:

So when I fell on the rocks, I skinned my hand, but more importantly, I jarred my camera.  When the walk was over and we got back to the house, I looked at my camera.  It said that it didn’t have a memory card, so I opened up the little door on my camera where the memory card goes.  When I opened that little door, the memory card popped out and fell through a slot on the deck.

Grrrrrrrr…..

I had to crawl under the deck to get my camera card back. ‘Cus, let’s face it, camera cards are kinda expensive, and it had some pictures on it.  I didn’t want to lose those.  So here’s the crawl space I had to go through and a picture of the deck’s underbelly:

Ok, so I got the camera card and everything felt right with the world again.  I should not have let my guard down because waiting for me outside the crawl space was this little gem:

Yes friends, that is a nail.  And yes, I stepped on it. And yes, it went into my foot.  That was definitely the most unpleasant part of my trip.  As I said, It happened Sunday morning.  Don’t worry, I soaked my foot in Epsom salt, put some hydrogen peroxide on it, bandaged it up, and by Sunday afternoon I was doing this:

A little nail in the foot was not going to stop me from having a good time!

Jury Duty is Finally Over

I’m not going to bore you with all the mundane details of the trial(hehe.. I almost typed trail).  I can tell you that I’m really glad it’s over and that I am actually looking forward to going back to work. There’s nothing like listening to four lawyers argue a minute point for three hours to make you appreciate your job.

I am also thankful that it was a civil trial and not a criminal trial, so I didn’t have to be involved in sending anyone to jail.  Because it was a civil trial, we only had seven jurors.  Did you know civil trials only need six jurors as opposed to twelve on a criminal case? I didn’t.  I guess I learned one thing from jury duty.  I am also thankful that our case didn’t get nearly as intense as this:

I will tell you one funny story though.  This was a case of civilian versus police officer.  One of the questions during jury selection was something along the line of, “Do you have a personal relationship or friendship with anyone in law enforcement.”  I thought to myself, Ohhh… this is the perfect opportunity to get out of serving on this case, so I raised my hand.  I told them that my husband is good friends with a police officer.  The lawyer then said something like, “So are you friends with him?”  My answer, “No, not really.  We don’t hang out.  He doesn’t like to scrapbook.”  Immediately I thought, What!? He doesn’t like to scrapbook? Where did that come from? I should not be allowed to talk in front of judges, other potential jury members, lawyers, cops, and district clerks ever again. The funny this is that I don’t even have time to scrapbook that much.  I have no idea why I said that.  I made myself look like a crazy scrapbooker lady for nothing because I got chosen anyway.

Oh well.  At least I’m not as crazy as this chick:

The Beard

I’m not sure how many guys out there feel this way, but my husband LOVES his beard.  I don’t just mean that he thinks his beard looks nice. No, he has a special comb for his beard and says it’s his pet.  Yeah, he loves it.

While driving to the Car d’Lane a few days ago, he made a comment about his beard that made me crack up.

He said he likes his beard right now because it looks like it is connected to his sunglasses.  Rich! Only Chris would come up with something like that.

Hey… one more thing.  If you see this man…

San Juan 047

Can you please tell him that he should think about trimming that face pet up?  We wouldn’t want him to look like this again would we?

I don’t know about you, but I think he looks much better like this:

Hahaha… Babe, I know you’re reading this. I love you even if your beard is getting a little long.  This is all in good fun. Ha!

My Kind of Shopping

I know a lot of you ladies love to shop. I kinda like it, but it’s not my favorite thing in the world. I tend to get bored after a while. That’s why it is always a good idea to find the little things to entertain yourself with. Hats! The perfect choice for entertainment while waiting for your shopaholic sister to finish her hour long browsing session in one store.

Please do not bring up the fact that these hats have probably been on about 10,000 heads. You cannot afford to be picky when faced with extended knick knack browsing.

A Day at the Circus

I went to the circus with my best friend Johna and her daughter Elizabeth.  The Shrine Circus put on a great show despite the pouring rain.  I haven’t been to a circus since I was a kid, and it was just as fun as I remembered.

Car d’Lane

Every year on Father’s Day weekend, our town holds an event called the Car d’Lane.  It’s a classic car event that lasts all weekend.  On Friday night, the owners of the cars cruise down town while crowds watch.  On Saturday, the cars are parked all along Sherman Avenue so that people can see the cars up close.  It’s a fun event, and I look forward to it every year.  I’m not a huge car enthusiast, but I can appreciate all of the hard work that goes into restoring a classic car.

Chris and I were only able to go downtown for a little while on Saturday.  When we got downtown, Chris was very proud to have found himself a parking place very close to Sherman Avenue.  He was also very proud of his parking job.  I took the opportunity to tease him about how much he likes to brag about his parallel parking skills even though he has done it about a gazillion times.

Like I said, we only had to walk for a few blocks until we were immersed in an atmosphere of classic rock and classic cars.
